Golden Baton Scholarship Initiative: College Edition
Empowering our youth through music, scholarship, and service
The Atlanta Alumni Association of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma is proud to announce the Golden Baton Scholarship Initiative: College Edition program (GBSI:CE). The GBSI:CE is geared towards members of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma who attend a Historically Black College and University (HBCU). GBSI:CE is designed to honor and support the educational endeavors of students leaders who have achieved academically, participate in an HBCU band program, and are members in good standing of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma. AAA will award one recipient a scholarship in the amount of $1,919.46 and a certificate of recognition.
eligibility Requirements
In order to apply, the applicant must meet the below requirements:
- Currently enrolled at an HBCU and in one of the collegiate band programs
- An active member of Kappa Kappa Psi or Tau Beta Sigma
- Have a cumulative 2.5 grade point average or higher (on a 4.0 scale)
- Demonstrated outstanding leadership skills
- Enrolled full-time, as defined by their institution, during 2024 Spring semester
Application Requirements
Items required for submission:
- Scholarship Application
- Photo and brief biography for publication (max 100 words)
- Description of leadership skills and experience
- Explanation of the impact band and Kappa Kappa Psi or Tau Beta Sigma has had on your life
- Motivation for choosing your academic field and goals after graduation
- Transcript issued by your registrar's office, including date of issue
- Proof of enrollment for the 2024 Spring semester
- Letter of Recommendation from a Director of Bands or Assistant or equivalent staff
- Letter of Recommendation from a Chapter Member
Important Dates
Important dates regarding the scholarship:
- Application: Application and all required documents must be submitted by October 31, 2023 at 11:59 PM ET
- Notification: Recipients will notified by November 18, 2023
- Presentation: The presentation of the scholarship is tentatively schedule for December 16, 2023
